Sean Whalen, People Under the Stairs Roach

Sean Whalen (People Under the Stairs’ Roach) Is Making a Horror Comedy, And You Can Help!

Actor Sean Whalen, best known for playing Roach in 1991’s The People Under the Stairs, is set to make his directing debut in a horror comedy he scripted called Crust. Currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, it is already 120% funded, so it is sure to be a film you’ll be able to see soon.

Also starring Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Danny Roebuck (The Devil’s Rejects), Whalen describes the film about a laundromat owner who creates and befriends(?) a sock that is encrusted with bodily fluids that miraculously becomes sentient. He has been kicking around the script for a few years, and with it being fully funded, it sounds like a dream is becoming reality.

Update: Sean Whalen’s co-star in Twister Alan Ruck has joined the cast.

Here is the pitch video as part of the Indiegogo campaign for Crust.

The description of Crust on the crowfunding page:

[Vegas is] a depressed guy who picks out the left over socks in the laundromat he owns and lives in, and uses them to wipe his bodily fluids (sweat, snot, earwax, blood, etc.)… then [he] gets abused by some bullies and cries in the socks and they come to life and become… Crust. Crust is a creature that loves Vegas unconditionally and will do anything to make him happy. Vegas’s life grows more complex. He starts a new relationship with a girl named Nila, he is hounded by an investigator who is convinced Crust exists, and his old costar Randy, is trying to reboot their 90’s sitcom, BAKER’S DOZEN. Vegas and Crust try to navigate all of these incoming issues, but there’s a slight problem. Crust gets angry sometimes… very angry. What should Vegas do?

As Roach in The People Under the Stairs along with a number of memorable roles in movies such as Twister and Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies, Whelan has become a fixture at horror conventions and on social media. With full funding and a cast that is well-known to the horror fans, Crust sounds like it will be a crowd-pleasing horror comedy for many.
