The Ouija board, also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a tool that has captivated the human imagination for centuries. It is used as a means of communicating with the spirit world and seeking answers to questions. The origins of the Ouija board can be traced back to ancient practices of divination and spirit communication. While we will get into some of the history of this spiritual tool, we will be also getting into more modern uses such as online Ouija boards that have become available.
The concept of communicating with the spirit world has been prevalent in many cultures throughout history. From ancient China’s “fuji” to the Greek “planchette,” people have sought ways to connect with the supernatural realm. However, the modern Ouija board as we know it today has its roots in the spiritualist movement of the late 19th century.
The spiritualist movement emerged in the mid-19th century in the United States and Europe. Spiritualists believed in the existence of spirits and the possibility of communicating with them. They held séances and used various methods of divination, including table-turning and automatic writing, to establish contact with the other side.
The Ouija board gained popularity in the early 20th century, becoming a common parlor game and a tool for spiritualists. It captured the public’s fascination, as people sought to connect with departed loved ones or gain insight into the future. The board’s mystique and the belief that it could provide access to hidden knowledge propelled its use and popularity.
With the advent of the internet and the rise of digital communication in the late 20th century, the Ouija board found its place in the online realm. And certainly in pop culture where many Ouija board movies or scenes in movies have taken place. As technology advanced, virtual Ouija board experiences emerged. Online platforms, websites, and even smartphone apps provided virtual Ouija board simulations, allowing users to experience the spirit board phenomenon remotely.
These digital versions of the Ouija board retain the fundamental elements of the physical board but offer a convenient and accessible way to engage in spiritualistic practices. Users can interact with the virtual board through their devices, and the planchette moves in response to their touch or cursor movements. Some platforms even incorporate chat features, allowing multiple users to participate in a session simultaneously.
Note that most of these websites were created years ago and have not taken advantage of new advancements in AI. Although some AI chat systems prevent various “supernatural” uses, it seems like it would be relatively easy to create something using new AI and create an Ouija Board online that would give better answers than pretty much all of the below examples. So here is hoping for that to happen soon. That said, here are some of the best online Ouija board options available right now.
Ouija Boards Online: Lagged.com
The look of this online Ouija board is quite nice, with some creepy music and a bobbing up and down that gets you into the spooky mood. The ads are a bit intrusive. I understand websites have to make money somehow, but in this case, it might be a little much. In some cases, the ad pop-up actually obstructed
The answers here seem to be fairly random and often do not answer the question asked based on my testing. And the movement of the planchette was very quick and awkward, which can take you out of the immersion of the experience.

Web Ouija at Museum of Talking Boards
When asking a question with this online Ouija board, the planchette begins to shake. It then moves when your mouse is on it, meant to mimic the experience of when someone is touching the planchette in the real world. While it is a basic thing, it is a fun way to immerse yourself in the experience.
One either drawback or positive feature is that it does not record the results on the screen when the planchette moves to the letters. So you have to jot down the letters yourself just like if you were using one in the real world and not an online Ouija board. It makes it a little more realistic, but it also maybe is something you would want from your online Ouija board.
As for the answers, similar to others on this list, asking it questions that go beyond simple YES and NO answers or numbers results in flawed answers. In my testing it at least gave relatively simple answers or a jumble of letters that didn’t actually spell anything concrete but was kind of creepy and similar to what happens with real Ouija boards.

Ouija Boards Online: E-Tarocchi.com
When asking a question with this online Ouija board, similar to the previous one, the planchette begins to shake. And the answer is recorded below the board.
The issue I found with this online Ouija board is that in my testing it came across as quite buggy. The page kept refreshing when I asked it something. The look and feel of it doesn’t exactly get yourself in the spiritual or spooky mood the way some of the others do, so I found that to be a drawback.
As for the responses, I thought they were slightly worse than others on this list, but it is difficult to know without plugging in a lot of questions over time to see just how interesting they are.

Spirit Board Ouija Game
This online Ouija board has a number of options that the others do not, such as Traditional (like a Ouija board most are used to), Modern (around a circle), and Lottery (as if you wanted it to generate numbers for the lottery), as well as Controls as Auto or Manual. While some may not be interested in some of these other options, this one does give you those additional features.
When asking a question with this one, I thought having both Auto and Manual provided an interesting option more than some of the others on this list. Using Manual, you can actually use a mouse cursor as an actual planchette and play the Ouija board online virtually the way you might play it in the real world. As
As for the responses, of course, it truly matters whether you have it set to Auto or Manual. The Auto responses seemed a bit odd, but they were mostly actual words even if they did not at all seem to answer my questions. And I couldn’t at all get it to answer a normal YES, NO, or number question, which personally I think is one of more important features to any online Ouija board. That said, as far as Ouija boards online, I still rate this relatively high because of the additional features and possibly having it be a solid option for playing manually using a mouse as a planchette.
